Midwest Snapshot: Wagon Ride in Symmes Valley, Ohio

My mother’s ancestral roots are in the Symmes Valley area of southern Ohio. This is where her parents were born and raised, married and “set up housekeeping.”  Eventually Mary and Sherman packed up everything they owned and traveled with their large family (my mom wasn’t born yet) north to Fayette County.

We still have numerous cousins around Ironton and sometimes we get together for a family reunion. I took these photos of a wagon ride through that countryside. Though it’s never been home to me, I still feel it’s pull upon my heart.

The horses and wagon are owned and driven by my cousin George Fuller. (I believe we share the same great-grandparents,)
