Midwest Snapshots – The Sound of Summer

My husband and I were sitting in our screen room (an unfortunate necessity in these parts) last week when a bug crawled up the screen. After finding a suitable spot, it stopped and began shedding its exoskeleton. We went in the house and came out an hour later to find a fully mature cicada drying its wings. In a few more hours, this little guy would join the chorus of all its relatives in creating the unique sound of summer in Missouri. Photo credit: Lora Young on my phone. Phone camera + Lora, the photographer = not the best picture, but you get the idea.
