If you think Paris or Italy is the only romantic place to go for Valentine’s Day, you haven’t explored Missouri or Kansas. Here’s a non-exhaustive list of place to take your special someone for the romance holiday: (After all, you’ll need to get your reservations in early!)
RowHouse – Topeka
Their motto is “Seasonally driven. Inspired by our roots.” Check the website for menus (posted by Friday at 4pm, and for seating times.
Harry’s – Manhattan
They feature Braveheart Black Angus Beef and dishes like Pinot Noir Blackberry Duck! You can read about the interesting history of Harry’s, along with menus and hours at their website.
The Oread – Lawrence
If you’re interested in having a weekend of romance, there’s the Oread. New in 2010, the KU campus spot boasts gracious accommodations, a spa and on-site fine dining.
Hotel Phillips – Kansas City
Renovated in 2001, this Art Deco hotel kept its original 1931 design. Marble floors. Double staircases. Elegant rooms. Their website lists romance packages that include chocolates, flowers, and wine.
Sycamore – Columbia
Sycamore is owner-operated and opened in 2005. They have a seasonal menu of locally sourced foods featuring craft brews and local beers.
Justus Drugstore – Smithville
Don’t let the name fool you. This is an award-winning restaurant housed in the chef’s parents’ old drugstore. (I remember when it was a drugstore. 😉 ) Although patio seating is available in the summer, you won’t want that this Valentine’s Day. Freshly prepared using local ingredients, the meal takes some time, but it’s so worth it!
